On Sunday October 5th the Friendship Train Foundation will be hosting a 5.5 mile round trip hike at Jockey Hollow, part of Morristown’s National Historical Park. This is considered an easy trail on wide footpaths along gurgling streams and rolling hills in a very beautiful area. The trail is well-marked with gentle elevation changes and a few slightly steeper hills.
Departure: 10am from school (Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Asbury Park, NJ)
Return: 5pm back to school
This historic area served as quarters for the Continental Army on two occasions; the winter of 1777 and again during the winter of 1779-1780. The trail includes a pass by soldiers huts and wick house, if time permits there will be a guided tour of the Wick house at the end of the trip.
There are no convenient stores or food so everyone needs to have lunch, snacks and drinks packed. During the hike there will be three breaks, two for snacks and one for lunch. Restrooms will be located at the visitor’s center (where the trip begins) and again at a facility about half way through the hike. Please remember to bring tick repellent. All participants must wear sneakers or hiking boots. Anyone failing to have the proper footwear, will not be able to participate.
Please Note: This trip is restricted to youth 11 years of age & older. Registrations are on a first come, first serve basis. Trips that do not meet minimum registration requirements may be cancelled. Jockey Hallow Hiking rain day visit NY museum of Natural History.
